Kati Basti Ayurveda Treatment

Kati Basti Treatment is a medication used in Ayurveda, an ancient Indian medicinal practice. The name “Kati” refers to the lower back, and “Basti” refers to the act of holding or maintaining. Kati Basti is a circular ring-like design made of black gram or wheat flour dough that is placed to the lower back with heated therapeutic oil or herbal decoctions.

Kati Basti Procedure:

The stages of Kati Basti Procedure are mentioned below:

1. Preparation: The therapist prepares the heated medicinal oil or herbal decoction that has been selected precisely for the individual’s condition and dosha imbalance in Ayurveda.

2. Patient’s position: The patient is placed facedown on a massage table or other suitable surface, exposing the lower back.

3. Dough preparation and application: The therapist makes a dough by combining black gramme or wheat flour with water. The dough is then formed into a circular ring with a central hole, suggesting an empty dam.
The dough ring is then gently placed on the lower back, establishing a firm grip against the skin. This forms a tank or A vase for the hot oil or decoction.

4. Pouring heated oil or decoction: The therapist carefully pours the therapeutic oil or herbal decoction into the dough structure, allowing it to fill the tank.

5. Retention and massage: The oil or decoction remains stuck in the dough structure for 20 to 30 minutes. To improve the therapeutic benefits, the therapist may do mild massage or particular motions on the lower back during this time.

6. Repeating the process: Depending on the individual’s health, the therapist may pour heated oil or decoction into the dough many times during the session to maximize benefits. After the required period, the therapist removes the dough ring from the lower back, leaving any extra oil or decoction to go away.

After Kati Basti Treatment, the patient may be supported to rest for a short period of time to enable the effects of the therapy to settle. Following treatment, it is usual to feel a sensation of warmth and relaxation in the lower back region.

7. Duration: The oil or decoction is kept in place for 20 to 30 minutes, and the process may be repeated multiple times.
